about

Hello friends, welcome to Songs About Stuff, a bunch of songs written for and about my kids and for various children's musical comedy plays that I've created.

For every album sold I'll donate £2.60 to the Somerset Wildlife Trust.

Why £2.60 you ask?

Fair question. Well, cos the London Marathon didn't go ahead a lot of charities won't be getting the cash people would have raised if they'd run the 26 miles. You'll see a lot of folks doing '26' themed charity thangs. I rounded it up to £2.60 cos 26p seemed a little mean, but still affordable and Bandcamp take 15% of the rest of the £7 (actually, you can pay more if you wish... no really, no paycheque is too big, as the poet/philosopher Peter Venkman once said)

Also, if you want to help out more, donate here

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the music.

If you're younger than, say, 13, I'd advise against downloading my free album Songs Of Self Pity And Despair, but I've got an awesome YouTube channel full of silly songs, just google Rich Stokes Quarantine Cabaret.

And I'm on Twitter @MrRichStokes

Thanks!

credits

released May 10, 2020

Rich Stokes: vocals, guitars, drums, ukulele, harmonica

Theo Stokes and Rafael Stokes: vocals on The Pirate Song and The Life Ahead

All songs written by ME (Rich Stokes)

Except!

The Life Ahead, written by Rich Stokes and Rafael Stokes (Rafael wrote the chorus and we turned it into a song)

And!

What Mrs Evans Said (A Christmas Song) written by Rich Stokes and Peter Stokes (This was actually taken from a poem my Dad wrote about my 5 year old self, recounting a hazy bedtime interpretation of the Nativity Story as delivered by my first ever form teacher, Mrs Evans. I had to fiddle with some of the verses and add a few bits here and there to make it work in the context of a song, but the gist and inspiration and emotional punch remain with the lovely poem my Dad wrote over 30 years ago.

Thanks to my lovely family x
